KARACHI: Young opener Abdullah Fazal believes the Pakistan Super League will act as the ultimate launch pad for domestic cricketers aspiring to wear the national colors and believes he is determined to make his debut season count.

Currently representing Rawalpindis, the budding batsman is making the most of his maiden PSL campaign, channeling the excitement of the big stage into consistency and a clear focus on long-term ambitions, he said in a recent interview. Jio News.

“Since the day I started playing professional cricket, my goal has been to play and do well in the PSL,” Abdullah said, reflecting on the journey that brought him to Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament.

For the youngster, the league offers a solid opportunity to showcase his talent.

“It’s a very big stage. If I perform here, it will open doors for me going forward,” he explained, outlining the role of PSL in shaping the career.

Despite being early in his PSL journey, Abdullah is already prioritizing consistency over brief, eye-catching performances.

“My effort is to deliver a strong performance and help my team win because that ultimately creates opportunities for the players,” he added.

Beyond the match day programs, the learning experience is equally important. Sharing the dressing room with seasoned professionals and international stars has provided valuable exposure beyond the training sessions.

“There is a lot to learn from senior and international players. I am always trying to improve,” he says. “I pay close attention to their routines, discipline and the way they train, and try to emulate those habits in my own sport.”

As an opener, Abdullah has taken particular inspiration from Australia’s Usman Khawaja.

“He is also a starter, so I watch him carefully during training and try to learn from him,” he noted.

With clear ambitions and a grounded mindset, Abdullah Fazal focuses on the big picture.

“My biggest aim is to perform well and represent Pakistan,” he concluded.
