ISLAMABAD: Left-arm opener Abdullah Fazal has been ruled out of Pakistan’s two-match Test series against the West Indies due to a back injury.
According to details, the 23-year-old injured his lower back while training for the green shirts at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Dharuba, which will host the opening match of the series till July 29.
Fazal underwent an MRI scan, following which the left-arm opener was advised to begin rehabilitation and was ruled unfit for the series against the West Indies and the three-match Test tour against England from August 19 to September 3.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that his replacement for both the above posts will be announced in due course.
The left-arm opener was brilliant in the four-day practice match against the West Indies Select XI at the Queen’s Park Cricket Club in Port of Spain, remaining unbeaten on 50 and 48 in the two innings respectively.
Notably, Fazal has represented Pakistan in two Tests so far, both appearances coming during the series against Bangladesh in May, and has amassed 141 runs at a decent average of 35.25 with the help of two half-centuries.
