BIRMINGHAM: Annerie Derksen’s half-century and Maryzan Cape’s three wickets helped South Africa to a 2-wicket win over Pakistan in the 11th match of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest target of 127, the Proteas managed to make up the tough yards as they hit the winning runs for 7 off 19 balls.

He scored a blistering 52 off 35 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes before falling to Tuba Hasan in the 11th over.

Following his dismissal, all-rounder Nadine de Klerk took control of South Africa’s run chase with a 28-ball 37 and kept them within one run of the target before being dismissed by Pakistan captain Fatima Sana.

Captain Fatima led Pakistan’s spirited bowling with 3 for 16 in her 2.5 overs, followed by two each from Duba and Sadia Iqbal, while Nashra Sandhu managed a scalp.

The defeat against the Proteas marked the second loss against the Greens in the 12-team tournament, following their campaign opener against arch-rivals India, where they failed to chase down 171 and were bowled out for 106.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana’s decision to bat first backfired despite her gallant half-century at the back as the Green Shirts could muster 126/9 in 20 overs.

The Green Shirts got off to a disastrous start to their innings as Cup dismissed both their openers Muneeba Ali and Gul Berosa with three runs in the first over for zero and one respectively.

Cup struck again in her next over, dismissing top-order batsman Ayesha Jaffer (nine), while Ayabonga Kaka cleaned up Natalia Pervaiz (four) to reduce Pakistan to 14/4 in 3.2 overs.

Middle-order batsmen Ramin Shamim (six) and Ram Javed (11) shared a brief 15-run partnership for the fifth wicket before both were run out in quick succession.

The returning Shabnim Ismail dealt another blow to Pakistan’s batting campaign as he caught Alia Riaz at backward point to Sune Luce.

Following the collapse, Pakistan captain Fatima teamed up with lower-order batsman Tuba Hasan and the duo batted valiantly to put on a 71-run ninth-wicket partnership that helped them breach the 120-run barrier.

After scoring a crucial 23 off 27 balls with the help of two fours, the thrilling partnership culminated with Tuba’s run out in the fourth ball of the final over.

Fatima, on the other hand, batted till the end and scored an unbeaten 55 off 38 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Kapp was the best bowler for South Africa, taking three wickets for just 23 runs in his four overs, while Ismail and Kaka chipped in with a scalp each.
