Delhi: India’s left-arm opener Abhishek Sharma is doubtful for the much-anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15.

The top-ranked T20I batsman missed India’s recently concluded match against Namibia due to a stomach infection, which the defending champions won easily by 93 runs.

The win would mark India’s second win in as many games and lift them to the top of the Group A standings, but they face a huge challenge in their next group-stage match as they face traditional rivals who have won their first two matches.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav gave an update on Sharma’s fitness ahead of the Namibia clash earlier today, saying the 25-year-old may miss further matches.

“Abhishek is still not fit and he will miss a couple of games,” Yadav said.

Also, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while sharing their lineup for the aforementioned match, shared that his health is being monitored by its medical team.

“Abhishek Sharma is still recovering from illness and is not available for the Test. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his progress.”

For the uninitiated, Sharma fell ill during India’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign opener against the United States of America (USA), during which he picked up a golden duck and did not field during the second innings.

India’s assistant coach Ryan den Toske later confirmed that the batsman was recovering from a stomach bug.

“Abby still has some stomach problems,” Ten Tosgate had said. “We hope he will play in two days.”
