Dhaka: Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha was surprisingly ruled out in the second ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The extraordinary incident occurred during Bangladesh captain Mehdi Hasan Miraz’s spell in the 38th over. He passed a ball to Mohammad Rizwan who tried to make a defensive shot.
The ball spun and rolled straight towards Salman Agha, who was standing at the non-striker’s end.
Agha tried to intercept the ball while the bowler Mehdi Hasan rushed forward. The two players swarmed the Pakistani batsman who was standing outside his crease as he tried to pick up the ball and hand it to the bowler.
When the right-handed batsman was ready to catch the ball, Miraz seized the opportunity. He collects it, quickly breaks the stumps and runs out leaving Agha stranded.
The pair later engaged in a discussion about the incident, with Agha expressing her surprise.
The Pakistan T20I captain then showed his frustration in the run-out manner, throwing his gloves and helmet on the ground as he returned to the pavilion.
Commenting on the recent clash, former Pakistan cricketer Ramis Raja reflected on the controversial dismissal involving Salman Agha.
He acknowledged the technical correctness of the decision, highlighting the unusual circumstances surrounding it.
“Within technical rules, he was actually run out, but in terms of sportsmanship, I’m afraid he got a big blow. He was about to take the ball and return it to the bowler, but the bowler saw an opportunity to run out. You have to feel him,” Ramis said.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez took to social media platform X to express his disappointment over the lack of sportsmanship shown by Bangladesh captain Mehdi Hasan Miraz.
“Poor sportsmanship by Bangladesh captain Mehdi Hasan Miraz,” Hafeez wrote.
Half-centuries from Maz Sadaq and Salman Ali Agha propelled Pakistan to a mammoth total in the second ODI of the three-match series.
Bangladesh captain Mehdi Hasan Miraz’s decision to field first backfired as Pakistan were bowled out for 274 in 47.3 overs.
Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Maas put on 103 off 77 balls. Maas scored a top score of 75 off 46 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes before Miras finally broke through.
Pakistan then quickly lost Farhan and Shamil Hussain to Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana, reducing the total to 122/3 in 19.3 overs.
Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan put on 109 runs for the fourth wicket to revive the innings. It ended in a strange way when Agha was run out by Miraz while helping to pick up the ball while he was on 64 off 62 balls.
Rizwan scored 44 runs off 59 balls. Rishad Hossain took 3 wickets, Miraz 2 wickets and Taskin, Nahid and Mustafizur took 1 wicket each.
