Sydney: Melbourne Renegades wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan retired on Monday during the 33rd match of the Big Bash League (PBL) 15 against Sydney Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium.

A video shared by the BBL on social media showed Renegades captain Will Sutherland inviting Rizwan back to the pavilion.

As the video went viral on social media, fans reacted strongly to the right-handed batsman being forced to retire, calling it a disgrace.

Rizwan has struggled with the bat in the ongoing tournament, scoring 167 runs at an average of 20.88 in eight matches without a half-century.

In the match against the Thunder, Melbourne Renegades batted first and scored 170 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Hasan Khan top-scored with a 31-ball 46 with a four and four sixes, while openers Josh Brown and Tim Seifert added 35 and 29 respectively.

David Willey, Ryan Hadley and Wes Agar took 2 wickets each for Sydney Thunder.

The game was then reduced to 16 overs, with Thunder set a target of 140 runs to chase down.

Sam Billings-led Thunder won by 6 wickets thanks to Chris Green’s brilliant 34 off 13 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Wicket keeper-batsman and captain Billings scored 33 off 27 balls with a four and a six, while Nick Maddinson scored 30 off 17 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

For the Renegades, Gurinder Sandhu went for the runs but led the bowling with figures of 4/42 from four overs, while Adam Jamba also picked up two wickets.
