LAHORE: Emerging fast bowler Ubaid Shah has expressed his happiness at joining Lahore Qalandars, saying that bowling alongside pacers Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Mustafizur Rahman is a huge opportunity for his development.

The right-arm pacer, who is the younger brother of fellow fast bowler Naseem Shah, shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview. Jio News at the LCCA ground.

After stints with Islamabad United and Multan Sultans, Ubaid revealed that he is relishing his new surroundings with the Qalandars.

“Now I have got an opportunity with Lahore Qalandars,” said Ubaid. “I’m getting a lot of support in this new team. Everyone, including Samin Rana and Shaheen Afridi, has been very supportive and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.”

The 20-year-old emphasized the quality of the best bowling unit in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He highlighted the invaluable experience of learning from seasoned campaigners.

“With Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Mujeeb ur Rahman, we have the best bowling attack in the PSL. I got a great opportunity to learn a lot from the veteran and experienced fast bowlers,” he said.

“It’s a big deal for me to bowl alongside them. Captain Shaheen Afridi believes in me and I’m honored to start bowling with him. If I learn from here, I will improve,” he added.

The young fast bowler explained that he is focused on contributing to the team’s success rather than modeling his game on one player.

“In whatever tournament I play, my aim is to perform well for my team and be the best bowler. I don’t have a particular bowler in mind that I want to emulate. I watch whoever performs well and try to learn from their bowling.”

Ubaid also touched on the mental aspects of T20 cricket, describing it as a game of mentality.

“T20 cricket is all about mindset. The quicker you can engage your brain, the more successful you will be. You have to understand what the batsman is trying to do and bowl accordingly.”

Modern batsmen have a wide range of shots, he said, making it necessary for bowlers to outplay them.

“Batters have different types of shots in their arsenal. As a bowler, you have to play with their mind. I have worked hard to bring variety to my bowling and I am reaping the benefits of that effort now,” he concluded.
