KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) captain Chris Green confirmed that Islamabad United suffered a 6-wicket defeat against Hyderabad Kingsmen in the 21st match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Bank Stadium on Sunday.
Batting first, United got off to a rousing start to their innings courtesy of their top-order that included Samir Minhas, Devon Conway and Mohamed Faiq.
The opening pair of Minhas and Conway put on a brisk 56 runs.
Conway then joined Fike in the middle, and the duo kept United’s momentum going with a 31-run stand before both were run out in the 10th over.
Their back-to-back dismissals sparked a slump that saw United lose six more wickets for just 64 from the remaining 67 balls, leaving them with a modest 153/9 despite Mark Chapman’s poor 42 at the back end.
Chasing down a target of 154 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and 11 balls, the Kingsmen put an end to United’s winning streak.
Green praised the opposition’s all-round brilliance, insisting United played well in phases, before citing his side’s defeat, which came after three straight wins, as the turning point.
“Yeah, it’s a disappointing result for us tonight. Credit to them; they played well. In stages of the game, we did very well,” Green said in the post-match presentation.
“That opening powerplay with the bat was good, but in the end, those two run outs cost us. It was a good fielding. We had two sets of batters and even though Mark Chapman batted well at the end, we couldn’t support his efforts,” he added.
The all-rounder also said United were 20 runs short and “missed a few marks” with the ball before expressing hope for a turnaround when they next face winless Rawalpindis at the same venue on Thursday.
“I felt we were 15 to 20 runs short on that wicket. Again, we were good with the ball but we missed some marks and they batted well,” Green continued.
“Losing a game is not a bad thing; you learn from it and we have another chance in a few days to go out there and do our thing,” he concluded.
