MUMBAI: Shimron Hedmeier’s brilliant half-century and Kudakesh Moti’s four-wicket haul helped West Indies beat Zimbabwe by 107 runs in the fourth Super Eight match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 here on Monday.

Chasing a target of 255, the Chevrons’ batting line-up struggled against a restrained West Indies bowling attack and were bowled out by a brave performance from all-rounder Brad Evans in 17.4 overs, amassing 147 runs.

Evans scored 43 off 21 balls and was the top scorer for Chevrons.

Apart from him, Dion Myers (28), skipper Sikandar Raza (27) and Tony Munyonga (14) could pile up double figures against a ruthless West Indies bowling attack.

Moti led the West Indies bowling with frugal bowling figures of 4/28 from his four overs, followed by fellow spinner Akhil Hossain who took three wickets, while Matthew Ford claimed two scalps.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza’s decision to bat first backfired as two-time champions Zimbabwe piled on 254 for 6 in 20 overs.

West Indies, however, had a mixed start to their innings as they lost right-arm opener Brandon King (nine) in the third over, with just 17 runs on the board.

Following an early stumble, Hedmire joined captain Shai Hope in a blistering 37-run partnership for the second wicket, which culminated in the final delivery of a batting powerplay when the latter fell to Brad Evans after scoring 14 off 12 balls.

Hope’s dismissal paved the way for Powell to exit at No.4, and he combined with Hedmayer to put up a century-plus partnership for the third wicket to take the West Indies to a good start.

The duo put on 122 off just 51 balls before Graeme Creamer gave Zimbabwe the breakthrough they needed in the 15th over when he dismissed Hetmyer, who was West Indies’ top scorer.

Nine balls later, Powell lobbed a short ball from Blessing Musarrabani to Tashinga Musekiwa, who stopped it at deep backward square leg, and walked back after a 35-ball 59 with four sixes and several fours.

Middle-order batsmen Romario Shepard and Sherfan Rutherford added to Zimbabwe’s woes as they kept West Indies’ scoring rate at bay with 21 and 31 respectively.

Richard Nagarava and Musarabani took 2 wickets each for Zimbabwe while Creamer and Evans took one wicket each.
