Benoni: Ayabongka Kaka’s blistering bowling and skipper Laura Wohlwart’s unbeaten 40 off 29 balls helped South Africa to a six-wicket win over Pakistan in the rain-interrupted second T20I at Willowmoor Park in Benoni.
The hosts restricted Pakistan to 100 for 9 in 14 overs and chased down the target with four balls to spare to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing 101, South Africa got off to a solid start with a 30-run partnership between Tasmin Pritts and Sune Luce, Luce falling lbw to Sadia Iqbal.
Brits continued to find boundaries while Wohlward settled in as the pair put on 36 runs for the second wicket to keep the asking rate in check.
Pakistan struck back in the middle overs, claiming the wickets of Britts and Dane van Niekerk, leaving South Africa needing 30 runs from the last four overs.
However, Wohlward was composed, leading the chase with smart placement and running.
He shared an important partnership with Marison Cup before Nadine de Klerk hit a boundary in the 13.2 overs to seal victory.
Earlier, a rain delay shortened the game, but South Africa’s bowlers struck early after choosing to field.
Marisane Kapp removed Muneefa Ali, while Mazabada dismissed Glass Gul Berosa and Ayman Fatima as Pakistan slumped to 28 for 3 inside the revised Powerplay.
A run out soon slowed Pakistan down further.
A disciplined South African attack continued into the middle overs, with contributions from Kayla Reineke and Nonkululego Malaba, before Kaka delivered the decisive blow at the death.
Despite a late surge of 22 runs in the last three overs, his three wickets ensured Pakistan remained unbeaten.
With the win, South Africa now lead the series 2-0 and are in a commanding position to clinch the three-match T20I series.
