KARACHI: Veteran left-arm opener Shaun Masood has been appointed as the vice-captain of Multan Sultans for the much-anticipated Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, from March 26 to May 3.

The franchise made the announcement through its official social media handles by sharing a package video of the 36-year-old batter, expressing his delight at rejoining the team he led to the playoffs in the 2020 edition.

“It’s great to be back in my team with the new Sultans. I hope it will be a memorable season and it’s good to be back home,” Masood said in a video message.

Masood previously captained Sultans in the 2020 edition, during which he led them to the playoffs as table-toppers.

The following season he was replaced by wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan in the leadership role and the move paid off as Sultans won their maiden PSL title.

Masood, however, stayed with Sultans till the 2023 edition and missed the next season before being drafted to Karachi Kings in 2024.

The experienced batsman was handed the captaincy but he could not force a change in fortunes for the 2020 champions as they finished fifth in the six-team tournament.

David Warner was replaced as captain for the landmark PSL 10 and played just three matches for the Kings until he was released by the franchise ahead of the historic player auction for the upcoming edition held last month.
