
KARACHI: 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi turned the record books on Thursday by amassing a mammoth total of 246/3 against home team Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11th 17th match at the National Bank Stadium.
Batting first, the visitors amassed 246/3 in 20 overs against the Kings, aided by a formidable second-wicket partnership between captain Gusal Mendis and skipper Babar Azam.
Zalmi’s 246/3 now stands as the highest PSL total at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, surpassing the previous best of 238/3 posted by three-time champions Islamabad United against Lahore Qalandars in the 2019 edition of the extravaganza.
Also, 242/6 against Multan Sultans in the 2023 edition is Zalmi’s highest score.
Whereas Zalmi’s 246/3 is the sixth highest score ever recorded in the marquee league. 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators scored 263/3 against United in the previous edition.

Leading the way for the 2017 champions was the top-order duo of Mendis and skipper Babur, who put on 191 runs for the second wicket after a poor start by Zalmi, who lost opener Mohammed Harris (zero) on the second delivery of the innings.
The 191-run partnership between Babar and Mendis is now the highest for any wicket in PSL history, surpassing the previous best of 176, which was recorded by Babar and Sharjeel for the Kings against United in 2021.
