KARACHI: Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim, who was picked up by Islamabad United in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11-man auction at the Expo Center in Lahore, has promised to make a strong statement on the field.

Taking to social media, Wasim expressed his gratitude to the franchise for believing in his abilities and promised to return their trust with a strong performance.

“A team believed, thank you Islamabad United,” he tweeted. “This auction has lit a fire in me. I have always proved my worth and will do it again. Every run, every wicket, every game… I will show on the field why I deserve to be picked. Look closely – the reminder is coming.”

Wasim, who went unsold in the initial round of players released with a base price of PKR 4.2 crore, was later picked up in the unsold category by Islamabad United for PKR 2.2 crore.

The 37-year-old previously represented Karachi Kings from 2016 to 2022 and will now play for Islamabad United from 2023.

In his PSL career, he has played 101 matches, scored 1,293 runs at a strike rate of 136.97, including seven fifties, and has taken 77 wickets with the ball.

The most awaited PSL 11 auction in the league’s history took place at the Expo Center on Wednesday, with the eight franchises finalizing their squads for the upcoming edition, which will run from March 26 to May 3.

The auction marked a historic change for the league, replacing the draft system used for player selections in the first ten editions of the PSL since its inception in 2016.

As the league expanded to include two new franchises, Sialkot Stallions and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen, existing teams faced tough decisions and were allowed to retain only four key players each.
