LAHORE: A joint bowling effort by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) helped them tighten their grip on the President Cup Grade-1 final against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on the second day at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Monday.
At the end of the day, SNGPL were reeling at 110/9 in reply to WAPDA’s 265 all out, with lower-order batsmen Shahnawaz Dahani and Shehzad Gul unbeaten on five and one respectively.
The SNGPL’s response will continue on day three as they need a miracle to avoid surrendering their first innings lead with both still 155 runs behind.
At the start of the second day’s play, WAPDA resumed their first innings from 233/6 and were all out for 265 in 82.1 overs.
Wicketkeeper batsman Bismilla Khan turned his overnight 48 into a valiant half-century and departed after scoring 56 off 85 balls with the help of 7 fours.
He was supported by tailenders Mohammad Zeeshan and Akif Javed who remained unbeaten on 13 and 10 respectively.
Test all-rounder Amir Jamal bowled well for SNGPL with 4 for 67 in 20.1 overs, followed by Shejad with 3. Shahnawaz Dahani took 2 wickets and Mohammad Ali took one wicket.
In reply, SNGPL’s batting unit stumbled against WAPDA’s disciplined bowling attack and were reduced to 110/9 in 42 overs before stumps were drawn at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium.
Opener Azaan Awais scored 48 off 117 balls with 7 fours, while skipper Mohammad Rizwan (15) was the other player to score double figures to top the SNGPL team.
For WAPDA, Naqeebullah and Zeeshan took 3 wickets each, Akib Khan 2 wickets and Akif 1 wicket.
