LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi hosted a party for Pakistan Super League (PSL) owners and players on Monday night, two days ahead of the start of the 11th edition of the tournament.

The event was attended by many international players including owners, captains of eight teams, head coach of Pakistan team, national cricketers, Sikandar Raza, Tabriz Shamsi and Brendan Wilson.

During the ceremony, the glittering Infinity Trophy for PSL 11 was also displayed, while the much-awaited anthem ‘Kelenge Pete Pay’ was released.

Welcoming guests at the function, PCB chairman Naqvi apologized to the nation while addressing the gathering, saying that PSL 11 was “limited” keeping in mind the national interest, stressing that the sacrifice would make it easier for the future.

“PSL 11 has been defined keeping national interests in mind due to the regional situation,” Naqvi said. “PSL has become a great international brand and we need to take it further.

“I apologize deeply to the cricket fans. You have to look at the wider interests of the country and the nation first.”

Naqvi apologized to the nation in light of the tournament organizers’ decision to hold its 11th edition behind closed doors in Karachi and Lahore instead of six cities, in line with officially announced national resource conservation efforts.

As per the revised schedule, the tournament will have 44 matches played over 39 days, with each city hosting 22 matches. There is no change in the opening match between Hyderabad Kingsmen and Lahore Qalandars.

Lahore will host Eliminators 1 and 2 and the finals, while the qualifiers will be held in Karachi.

As the tournament temporarily adopts a home viewing model, the organizers have confirmed the introduction of enhanced broadcast and production features designed to provide a better viewing experience for fans in Pakistan and around the world.
