LAHORE: The Pakistan women’s cricket team returning home from South Africa is at risk due to cross-border tensions in the Middle East and the closure of the region’s airspace, sources told Jio Super on Sunday.

Following the conclusion of the ODI series earlier today, the national team is set to leave Durban for Pakistan via Dubai on Monday night, but instability in the Middle East has led to the closure of several airports in the region, casting doubt on the side’s return.

According to locals, the national team will begin their return journey following a formal announcement on the resumption of flight operations in the region.

The sources added that the national team’s stay in Durban may have to be extended if the airspace and airports remain closed.

Notably, Pakistan toured South Africa and won the three-match series 2-1 in each T20I and ODI series.

The national team won the White Ball Tour by 119 runs against South Africa in the third ODI at Kingsmead, Durban.

Batting first, the Green Shirts amassed a mammoth total of 306/8 in their 50 overs, aided by half-centuries from Shatab Shams and captain Fatima Sana, who combined to restrict South Africa to 187 in 36.2 overs.
