KARACHI: Australia’s top-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne has been appointed as the captain of the debutant team Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen for Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 from March 26 to May 3.

The franchise made the announcement via its official social media handles by sharing a 26-second long video of a private jet in the middle of Hyderabad city dropping paper leaflets that read “Marnus Labuschagne Announced Captain”.

Notably, Labuschagne joined the Kingsmen last month for an undisclosed sum, signing directly ahead of the historic player draft.

The right-handed batsman, who has been an integral part of the Australian men’s cricket team in the longer formats since making his international debut against Pakistan in 2018, however, has only one appearance in T20Is, which coincidentally came against the green shirts in 2022.

Despite being one of the best long-form batsmen, Labuschagne has fewer numbers to his name in T20s, scoring 1381 runs in 59 matches at a poor average of 26.55 despite scoring eight half-centuries.

However, he also offers a spin-bowling option in the shorter format and has taken 40 wickets in T20s at an average of 20.05.

For the uninitiated, Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen will begin their PSL 11 campaign against Lahore Qalandars in a scheduled curtain raiser on March 26 at Gaddafi Stadium.

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen: Saim Ayub, Akif Javed, Mas Sadaq, Marnus Labuschagne (Direct Signing), Glenn Maxwell (Direct Signing), Usman Khan, Muhammad Ali, Khusal Perera, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Hasan Khan, Shayan Jahangir, Odniel Bartman, Halil Khan, Shortman, Halil Khan Mehmood, Hunain Shah, Rizwan Mehmood, Saad Ali and Dayab Arif.
