KARACHI: 2020 champions Karachi Kings on Tuesday announced that they will retain former Australia opener David Warner as their captain for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to be played from March 26 to May 3.
The franchise made the announcement through its official social media handles by sharing a graphic poster of the left-handed batsman.
“Leader, Legend, King, David Warner returns as captain, ready to take (Kings squad) to new heights in upcoming (HPL PSL) season,” the franchise captioned the post.
Warner made his PSL debut for the Kings in the previous edition and led them to their first playoff qualification after a gap of three years.
The 39-year-old finished the previous season as Kings’ second-leading run-scorer, amassing 368 runs in 11 matches at a decent average of 33.45 and a strike-rate of 153.97, aided by three half-centuries.
Despite his spirited performance in the landmark PSL 10, Warner was released by the Kings as the existing six franchises were allowed to retain only four players ahead of the opener’s auction due to the expansion of the marquee league to eight sides.
But Peshawar outbid Zalmi with an offer of Rs 79 million in the Kings’ player auction to get his services back.
Warner-led Karachi Kings will begin their PSL 11 campaign on March 27 when they take on Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
