Bangladesh Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Aminul Islam has insisted he will remain in office despite a damning report submitted to the government on growing turmoil within the organization and election irregularities.

An inquiry into allegations of corruption and abuse of power during board elections last October has now formally submitted its findings to Bangladeshi authorities.

The BCB is facing pressure from the country’s sports ministry, which has raised questions over the validity of the last board election, Bangladesh’s failure to qualify for the T20 World Cup earlier this year and allegations of political interference and favoritism within the board.

The crisis deepened this week as four directors resigned in the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of departures since January to six.

Amid pressure from the Bangladeshi government and calls for his resignation, Aminul was determined to retain his post. Speaking on Saturday, Aminul struck a negative tone.

“I’ll sit in my chair, what else can I do, and I’ll go last,” he said. “I have a good, dedicated and honest team (in PCB). I want to serve Bangladesh cricket with this team.

“No one is indispensable. I am the only Bangladeshi who has worked in the ICC. I am not saying I am something big. But I am sitting here because of my experience. I have left everything to support my country. If this is not mine, I will look for another path. But I want to support my country.”

Regarding the inquiry, Aminul explained that he did not meet the committee members in person due to conflicting hours, but submitted a written response.

He said his only involvement in the election process was to write letters to constituencies and districts seeking the names of councillors, most of whom did not send them through ad-hoc committees.

“I did not face the committee. I was busy with two separate meetings, so my dates clashed with their schedule. I gave them my reply in writing,” he said.

“I was not involved in anything else in the board elections. I was involved in one part, which is under investigation now. I will not go into details, but I can say that according to our constitution the ad hoc committee runs the district sports body. It is clearly stated that the names of the councilors should come from the ad hoc committee.

“When three names came up from within those ad-hoc committees, we were forced to write to them again. We said, please send the names from your ad-hoc committee. That’s what I was involved in.”

Aminul was appointed BCB chairman in May 2025, replacing Farooq Ahmed as a government-approved director in the board. At the time, he described his role as a “quick T20 innings”, but later contested the October elections and was formally elected as president.

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal withdrew from the tournament after accusing Aminul of corruption and abuse of power in the election process.
