LAHORE: Sialkot Stallions owner Hamza Majeed on Tuesday announced the coaching staff for the historic 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) that includes former national cricketers Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan and Sohaib Maqsood.

Majeed made the announcement during a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium in which he dismissed rumors of ownership confusion.

He announced the bringing in of former England cricketer Mike Smith as assistant coach, while national cricketers Hasan and Maqsood were appointed as bowling and batting coaches respectively.

The coaching staff is led by former Australian captain Tim Paine, who played 35 Tests and ODIs each for the Baggy Greens.

“I would like to announce our entire coaching and ground staff, which includes a big name. As everyone knows, Tim Bain is our head coach,” Majeed told reporters here.

“Mike Smith has been added to our team as assistant coach, Rana Naveed has been appointed as our bowling coach along with our first national player Sohaib Maqsood as batting coach.

“He will play a dual role with Qaiser Abbas; he has a long history in first class. Along with him, our physios, we are privileged to have Brendan Wilson, a very renowned physio named after the game of cricket.”

Majeed added that the captain for their first PSL appearance will be announced this week and added that the management has shortlisted two to three players for the role.

The Stallionz owner further addressed concerns over the participation of Steve Smith in PSL 11, who is the highest paid player in the history of the marquee league, who is set to receive Rs140 million.

Confirming Smith’s participation, Majeed insisted that their squad for PSL 11 remains intact.
