LONDON: Kane Williamson’s last game at Lord’s on Sunday was disappointing as England beat New Zealand by 115 runs in the first Test of the three-match series.

Resuming their innings at 55/5 with 199 needed, New Zealand were bowled out for 138 in 40.3 overs by England’s fast bowlers.

In the second innings, Devon Conway top-scored for the Blackcaps with 41 off 91 balls including 4 fours. Glenn Phillips scored 44 off 42 balls with 7 fours and a six.

With captain Tom Latham ducking out, Kane Williamson with 18, Rachin Ravindran with 8, Will O’Rourke and Daryl Mitchell ducking out, New Zealand’s strong batting unit failed to score big runs.

England were led by Gus Atkinson with figures of 5/30 in 11.3 overs, followed by Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue with two wickets each and Ben Stokes with one.

Batting first in the opening game, New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson took 5 wickets and stifled England’s batting line-up.

Harry Brook alone scored 56 off 71 balls including 10 fours, while opener Ben Duckett scored 19 off 37 balls with 2 fours.

Jamieson led the Kiwi bowling with figures of 5/62 from 14 overs. Nathan Smith took 3 wickets and Will O’Rourke 2 wickets.

In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 113 runs in 29.5 overs.

Jamieson remained unbeaten on 38 off 29 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes, while Glenn Phillips scored 34 off 39 balls including 6 fours.

Ollie Robinson led the charge against England with five wickets at 5/39 in 10.5 overs. Josh Dungu took 3 wickets and Gus Atkinson 2 wickets.

Batting in the second innings, England added 226 runs and set New Zealand a target of 254 runs. Debutant Emilio Gay scored 57 runs off 95 balls with 8 fours.

Jamie Smith scored 39 runs off 52 balls with 6 fours, while Ben Duckett and Ollie Robinson added 33 and 29 runs respectively.

New Zealand’s Nathan Smith took 6 wickets for 70 runs in 17 overs. Will O’Rourke took two wickets, while Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry took one each.
