KARACHI: Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday confirmed that its all-rounder Cameron Green will be banned from bowling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, insisting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were “fully aware”.

According to a report by a leading cricket website, the 26-year-old all-rounder, who became the most expensive overseas player in the history of the lucrative league after being signed by KKR for Rs 25.2 crore, was advised to avoid bowling by CA due to a lower back injury.

“Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but he will have to avoid bowling for a short period of time,” a CA spokesperson said.

“Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling load with a view to returning to India in 10-12 days. KKR has been in touch with this information fully.”

The clarification comes after KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane said, “Ask Cricket Australia” when asked why Green did not bowl in Sunday’s six-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians.

Rahane, however, was confident of a resumption of Green’s bowling, insisting that it would make their combination better.

“When Green starts bowling early, I think the mix will be a bit different,” he said in the post-match presentation.

“At this point, we have to look at the balance, who can bowl us well. Batting-wise, like I said, we batted well, but finding that balance with the ball is very important. So, Green will start bowling soon, (and) we’ll find out if the combination is right.”

Notably, Green has not bowled since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which concluded earlier this month, due to a back injury.

Ahead of the mega event, the 26-year-old is out for 12 months from September 2024 to October 2025 after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his back.
