LAHORE: Former Pakistan middle-order batsman Asif Ali on Wednesday expressed his desire to take back his international break, but insisted that his primary focus is on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, which will be played on March 26.

Asif, who represented Pakistan in 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is, called time on his international career in September last year and shared that he will continue to play in domestic and franchise leagues around the world.

The hard-hitting batsman, however, insisted that he is “available” if the team needs him, citing the example of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who swapped their respective retirements to represent Pakistan at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

“Look, my job is to play cricket. In the (2024) World Cup as well, you saw two retired players returning to the Pakistan team. If needed, I am there. But my first focus is to play in the PSL and do well,” Asif told reporters on the sidelines of Lahore Qalandars training earlier today.

The 34-year-old reiterated that he is now focused on helping the Callanders retain the title with his performances.

“Look, all the players have the same goal and aim; just like we were champions last time, we are aiming to be champions this time,” Asif said.

“As far as retirement is concerned, I am still playing cricket and God willing, as long as I am fit, I will continue to play,” he added.

The middle-order batsman, widely known for his ability as a finisher, further shared that he is ready to play at any position for the Callanders, stressing that the batting combinations should evolve as per the requirements.

“See, I have played in all the matches required by the team and the number is selected according to the team inclusion,” shared Asif.

“I was happy there and this time, whatever number they give me, I will be happy,” he added.
