Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has brought up the latest controversy during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 match between Quetta Gladiators and Rawalpindis at the National Bank Stadium on Friday.

Ashwin took to social media platform ‘X’ to join the debate surrounding the confusion surrounding Usman Tariq’s unorthodox bowling action. He accepted both the arguments before giving his analytical judgment.

“Mitchell is right, Tariq is. Time the pause to see if he delays ball to ball,” Ashwin wrote.

The incident unfolded with Tariq at the bowling crease during the ninth over of the Gladiators’ chase.

His action, which featured a distinctly brief pause in his delivery, visually confused New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell as he tried to read him.

On two separate occasions in the same over, Mitchell stepped away from the crease, clearly struggling to adapt to the spinner’s unusual rhythm. The umpire was forced to step in and talk to the batsman to help clarify the situation.

Speaking during the PSL’s pitch-side segment, Tariq shed light on the exchange, explaining how the conversation with the Rawalpindi batter unfolded.

“When Daryl Mitchell pulled back, I asked him what happened. He said, ‘You’re taking a break.’
