KARACHI: Quetta Gladiators spinner Abrar Ahmed has backed his side to bounce back strongly in the Karachi leg of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, insisting the team is ready to “start fresh” after a disappointing opening leg in Lahore.
speaks Jio NewsAbrar said the team has put the Lahore leg behind them and is now fully focused on resuming their campaign in Karachi.
“We left the previous phase because it was not good for us. Now we want to start again from here,” he said.
The spinner is confident that the conditions in Karachi will help the bowlers, especially the off-spinners, as the matches progress.
Mirroring Quetta’s performance so far, Abrar has allowed some matches to slip away despite being in a strong position.
“We won some matches but lost because of mistakes in the middle order. In the two games against Islamabad and Karachi Kings, we were in control but couldn’t finish,” he said.
Abrar emphasized that collective success is the team’s priority over individual milestones.
“My personal goal is simple – to win the trophy for Quetta Gladiators,” he said, adding that maintaining a good economy rate and consistent bowling is more important than topping the wicket charts if the team is to reach the finals.
Discussing modern T20 cricket, Abrar noted that bowlers have to be smarter than ever in a format heavily tilted in favor of the batsmen.
“You have to read the wicket, understand the batsman and adjust your plans accordingly. It’s all about situational bowling,” he explained.
He acknowledged the impact of the lack of crowds, saying players miss out on the energy and atmosphere fans bring to the game.
“The crowd makes the game more alive. Hopefully, things will improve and we’ll see fans back in the stands soon,” he added.
Responding to a question about external criticism, Abrar said he was only focused on his game.
“My job is to play cricket. Whether I play here or anywhere in the world, my focus is on the game,” he concluded.
