Harare: Pakistan’s emerging opener Sameer Minhas on Tuesday surpassed Indian batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s record for the fastest century in youth ODIs.

Sameer achieved the milestone during Pakistan’s U19 ODI tri-series final against hosts Zimbabwe at the Old Hararians Stadium.

Suryavanshi’s 42-ball century against England in July last year is now the fastest in the format.

The 14-year-old left-handed batsman, who scored a 56-ball century against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai last December, is now third on the list, followed by Pakistan’s Qasim Akram’s 63-ball century against Sri Lanka.

Minhas scored 114 runs off 51 balls with 17 fours and 5 sixes and was instrumental in Pakistan’s chase of 159 runs with one wicket and 202 balls remaining in the recently concluded Summit.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Farhan Yousuf won the toss and asked the team to bat. Despite a cautious half-century from middle-order batsman Michael Blignot, the Green Shirts’ bowling attack led by Umar Zaib saw Chevrons manage a modest 158 ​​in 44.4 overs.
