
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted a preliminary squad to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, Geo Super sources said on Saturday.
The deadline for the 20-team tournament, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, has been set for January 31.
Participating teams are allowed to make changes to their preliminary squads without the approval of the apex body until the aforementioned deadline; However, any changes to the continents after this date will require the approval of the ICC Technical Committee.
As a result, Pakistan, who are placed in Group A, have submitted a 15-man provisional squad and travel reserve list.
Initial names of players include senior trio Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, and they plan to analyze the performance of the two players, apart from the green shirt squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka tour will be followed by a three-match home T20I series against Australia and insiders suggest Pakistan will announce the squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
For the uninitiated, the away series against Sri Lanka is from January 7 to 11, while the home assignment against Australia is from January 30 to February 5.
The 2009 champions will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo.
It is to be noted that Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka with four Group A matches starting in Colombo and Super Eight matches scheduled in Colombo and Kandy.
