
KARACHI: Captain Shaun Masood’s anchor, Mubasir Khan’s 5-wicket haul helped Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to a resounding 100-run win over Karachi Research Laboratories (KRL).
Batting first, SNGPL posted less than 140 runs on the board before being bowled out in 34.1 overs.
Captain Masood was the top scorer anchoring a 54-ball 47, while No. 9 batsman Mohammad Irfan was another notable run-scorer, contributing with 32 off one ball.
Apart from them, Muhammad Awais Jafar (14), Mohammad Salman (11) and Amir Jamal (10) could score double figures against the Saqib Khan-led KRL bowling attack.
Among the KRL bowlers, Saqib took 4 for 21 in his 7.1 overs, followed by captain Iftikhar Ahmed with 3, while Pakistan international Subian Muqeem claimed two wickets.
Chasing a modest target of 141 runs, KRL’s batting unit managed to score 40 runs in just 20.2 overs as SNGPL were booked by Mubasir and Sajid Khan.
Openers Waqar Ahmed (14) and Shahzaib Khan (12) were the top scorers for KRL, while other batsmen failed to score double figures.
Mubasir led the SNGPL’s bowling charge with sensational figures of 5/6 in seven overs, while Sajid returned with equally impressive figures of 4/10 in 7.2 overs. Fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani caused a scalp.
The 100-run win cemented SNGPL’s position at the top of the President’s Cup Grade-I as they now have 32 points from two matches with a net run rate of 2.660, while KRL are third with 17 points.
On the second day of the eight-team tournament, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) defeated Pakistan Television (PTV) at the Oval Academy Stadium here to win their second match in a row.
Batting first, PTV posted 268/9 in 50 overs thanks to a blistering century from wicketkeeper batsman Taimur Khan.
Taimur top-scored with an unbeaten 117 off 100 balls with 9 fours and 6 sixes, while opener Shamil Hussain and middle-order batsman Mohammad Taha smashed half-centuries.
In reply, OGDCL made easy work of the 269 run target as they chased down the total with 5 wickets and 24 balls to spare.
Wicketkeeper batsman Rohail Naseer top-scored with 81 off 82 balls, followed by Imam-ul-Haq’s 63 off 60 balls. Captain Adil Amin (32) and all-rounder Danish Aziz (39) also contributed significantly.
State Bank of Pakistan (SBB) cruised to a five-wicket victory over Sahir Associates at the KCCA Stadium here, following Mohammad Faizan’s anchoring century in the run chase as the collective bowling effort.
Batting first, Sahir Associates managed to amass 257/9 in 50 overs despite half-centuries from Mohammad Mohsin Khan and Asfant Mehran.
Mohsin followed up with a top-scoring 53 off 52 balls, while Asband scored 51 off one ball after captain Asim Ali Naseer (39) and opener Fahad Usman (35) made significant contributions to the line-up.
Shahid Aziz took three wickets while Mehran Mumtaz and Salman Ali Agha took two wickets each for SBB’s bowling.
In turn, SBB easily chased down the target of 258 runs for the loss of 5 wickets thanks to Faizan’s century.
He was SBB’s top scorer with 106 off 110 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a 101-run partnership for the second wicket with South Shakeel, who scored 55 runs off 81 balls with the help of 4 fours.
For Sahir Associates, Hafiz Mohammad Suleman took 2 wickets and Razaullah and Aspant took one wicket each.
In the remaining second round match at the Naya Nazimabad Stadium here, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) registered a resounding victory over Ghani Class by 9 wickets.
Opener Ghani Glas managed to amass 193 runs in 48 overs despite Hussain Dalat’s half-century.
Hussain singled for Gani Glass with a cautious 54 off 86 balls, with the next best contribution coming from fellow middle-order batsman Zafar Gohar’s 56-ball 29.
Akif Javed took four wickets for 45 runs in his 8 overs for WAPDA. He was supported by Mujdaba Khan with two wickets and Sharoon Siraj, Ahmed Safi Abdullah and Nabi Gul with one each.
In reply, WAPDA easily chased down the target of 194 runs for the loss of one wicket with 88 balls to spare.
Opener Muhammad Akhlaq was brilliant with an unbeaten century, scoring 102 off 96 balls and hitting 12 fours including 8 sixes.
He shared 134 runs with his opening partner who anchored a 91-ball 67 with 5 sixes and 4 fours.
For non-qualifiers, the third round of the President’s Cup Grade-I will be held on December 12 at four venues here.
