KARACHI: Australia’s bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott has admitted his poor record against Pakistan’s Babar Azam, saying he was not fit to bowl the star batsman.

Abbott, who has represented Australia in 29 ODIs and 28 T20Is, is yet to get Babbar out in each of the two white-ball formats.

The bowling all-rounder has conceded 40 runs off 48 balls to Babur in ODIs. However, in T20Is, Abbott could only bowl 12 balls and scored eight runs.

Both are currently representing the Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League (PBL) 2025-26. Although they share the same team in the franchise league, Abbott highlighted the difficulties he faced bowling to the 31-year-old, saying he could hit anywhere.

“Babur hits you where he wants to and it hurts me to bowl to him,” Abbott said during an interview that has gone viral on social media.

“Whether it’s domestic cricket or international cricket, I don’t think I’ve ever got him out, sometimes it feels like a death by a thousand cuts because if you look at the scoreboard, he’s scored 120 runs and you don’t think you’re even close to getting him out,” he added.

Sean Abbott said Babar’s presence in the Sixers was a blessing for the team, hailing the Pakistan international as an “asset”.

“So, he’s a real asset to have, he’s been hell for us so far. Babar (sixer) has been blessed.”

Earlier today, Abbott and Babar Azam combined to give the Sydney Sixers their second win of the PBL 2025-26 as the visitors beat the Melbourne Renegades by six wickets with five balls to spare.

Abbott set the tone for a crucial victory with an economical return of 3/16, while Babur oversaw the follow-up with an unbeaten half-century and returned to top score with 58 off 46 balls with 4 fours and a six.
