Harare: Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) shared on Wednesday that Muhammad Mahdi, the 13-year-old brother of Zimbabwe men’s T20I captain Sikandar Raza, breathed his last on December 29.

In a brief statement, ZC revealed that Mahdi was born with hemophilia – a medical condition in which the blood’s ability to clot is severely reduced, causing the victim to bleed profusely even with minor injuries.

The cricket board further shared that Mahdi sadly passed away on Monday and was laid to rest here the next day, while expressing solidarity with its national men’s team T20I captain Raza and his family in a time of deep mourning.

“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) extends its heartfelt condolences to Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza and his family following the untimely death of his beloved younger brother Muhammad Mahdi who died at the age of 13 in Harare on December 29, 2025,” ZC said in a statement.

“Muhammad Mahdi was born with hemophilia and unfortunately lost his life due to recent health problems.

“He was buried on 30 December 2025 at the Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare.

“The ZC Board, Management, Players and Staff stand in solidarity with Sikandar Raza and his family at this deeply troubling time.

“May Allah grant them comfort and strength, and may the soul of Muhammad Mahdi rest in eternal peace.”

Meanwhile, Raza, who is set to lead Zimbabwe at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, shared a brief reaction when he retweeted ZC’s statements with a broken heart emoji.
