Karachi: Pakistan Test cricket team captain Shaun Masood has created a new national record by scoring the fastest first-class double century in the country’s history.

Playing for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Masood hit his 177-ball double century against Sahir Associates in the opening match of the first round of the President Cup Grade I 2025-26 at the National Bank Sports Complex on Sunday.

The left-handed batsman broke Inzamam-ul-Haq’s previous record of a 188-ball double century during a first-class tour against Oxford and Cambridge University in 1992.

Masood’s innings is the fastest first-class double century ever recorded on Pakistani soil, surpassing India’s Virender Sehwag, who achieved the feat in 182 balls in the 2006 Lahore Test.

At the end of the first day, Masood was unbeaten on 212 off 185 balls.

Batting first, SNGPL got off to a solid start as openers Azaan Awais and Ali Zariab put on a 53-run partnership. Asan scored 26 runs off 68 balls including 4 fours and was dismissed by Phila.

Following Azan’s dismissal, Ali Zariab and Shaun Masood produced a record-breaking contribution to pile on the runs and put Sahir Associates under huge pressure.

Mohammad Hasnain dismissed Zariab, who was 8 runs short of a double century, scoring 192 off 237 balls with 27 fours and 4 sixes.

Masood remained unbeaten, raising his bat to 212 off 185 balls, including 18 fours and 2 sixes, in a memorable day for the SNGPL.

At the end of the first day, SNGPL reached 460-2 in 82.1 overs with Umair Bin Yousuf at the crease with 5 off 15 balls and a boundary.
