Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim Davids are expected to be included in Australia’s provisional squad for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Cummins is scheduled to undergo another scan of his back in four weeks, after which the selectors will make a final decision on his availability.

The Australian captain has played just one international since suffering a groin strain in July.

He made a brief bowling appearance in the Adelaide Test against England, but was retired for the rest of the series as the team management chose to take more risks.

Meanwhile, Tim David has been ruled out of the rest of the Big Bash League after suffering a grade-two right hamstring strain while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes on Boxing Day.

However, his recovery timeline is encouraging, giving him a strong chance of regaining full fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup, which starts in early February.

Hazlewood, who has been managing his workload due to injury, is set to be named in the provisional squad as Australia look to field a full-strength squad for the global tournament.

Notably, the 2026 T20 World Cup will be held from February 7 to March 8 and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The 20 participating teams are divided into five groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eight stage. The Super Eight will then be split into two groups of four teams each.

Defending champions India have been placed in the same group as arch-rivals Pakistan, along with the Netherlands, Namibia and the United States (USA).

However, co-hosts Sri Lanka find themselves in a relatively tough group with three full-member teams, Australia, Zimbabwe and Ireland along with Oman.

Another group consists of England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Italy and Nepal, while the remaining group includes South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada.
