Bhutan’s left-arm spinner Sonam Yeshe has etched her name in cricket history by becoming the first bowler to take eight wickets in a T20I, international or otherwise.
The 22-year-old achieved a remarkable feat in the third T20I against Myanmar on Friday by recording 8/7 from his four overs in Khelebu.
His extraordinary performance helped Bhutan bowl out Myanmar for 45 runs, chasing down Bhutan’s total of 127 for 9.
Yeshey has been outstanding in this one-sided series, taking 12 wickets in four matches so far. The final match of the series is scheduled for Monday.
Prior to Yeshe’s historic feat, only two bowlers had taken seven wickets in men’s T20 Internationals: Syazrul Idrus (7 for 8 for Malaysia against China in 2023) and Ali Dawood (7 for 19 for Bahrain against Bhutan in 2025).
Outside internationals, Colin Ackerman (7 for 18 for Leicestershire vs Birmingham Bears in 2019) and Taskin Ahmed (7 for 19 for Darbar Rajshahi vs Dhaka Capitals in 2025) achieved similar heights.
In Women’s T20 Cricket, 2024, Indonesia’s Rohmalia achieved 0 for 7 against Mongolia.
Other notable seven-wicket haulers in women’s internationals include Frederic Overdick (3 for 7), Alison Stocks (3 for 7), and Samanthi Tunukethenia (7 for 15).
Additionally, four more events have been recorded in women’s T20 matches.
Yeshi made his T20I debut against Malaysia in July 2022 with an immediate impact of 3 for 16.
Since then, he has amassed 37 wickets in 34 T20Is, with Friday’s historic performance marking a new peak in his career.
