
KARACHI: All-rounder Jahandad Khan played a key role as PTV cruised into the President’s Cup Grade-1 final by beating ODGCL by 84 runs in the first semi-final at the National Bank Stadium on Monday.
Chasing a challenging score of 242, ODGCL made a promising start but were bowled out for 157 in 30.5 overs.
Openers Mas Sadaq and Imam-ul-Haq added 43 runs, with Mas hitting 35 off 16 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes.
However, the momentum changed when Maas was dismissed in the fifth over. Haroon Arshad soon followed, leaving just one run, ODGCL 44-2.
Key batsman Imam-ul-Haq managed just 20 off 21 balls before falling to Israr Hussain and two quick wickets saw the team reeling at 79-5 in 12.1 overs.
Contributions from Danish Aziz (14) and Rohail Naseer (17) provided some resistance, but the middle order soon collapsed.
Off-spinner Faisal Akram picked up two key wickets while Mohammad Amir Khan and Arshadullah were dismissed cheaply. Jahandad Khan finished as PTV’s pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets along with Israr Hussain, Ammad Butt, Ali Usman and Faisal Akram.
Batting first, PTV got off to a steady start with openers Shamil Hussain and Yasir Khan adding 28 runs.
However, PTV were struggling at 30-2 as early wickets fell as Shamil was dismissed for 11 and Yasir for 14.
Further wickets saw the side slip to 74-4, but Mohammad Taha and Taimur Khan put on an 85-run partnership to stabilize the innings. Taha scored 35 and Taimur missed out on a half-century of 48.
Jahandad Khan scored 63 off 47 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes to bowl out PTV for 241 in 50 overs.
Ammad Butt, Adil Amin and Muhammad Imran shared the wickets for ODGCL with Amin taking three wickets.
