KARACHI: South Africa U19 Women won the rain-affected fifth and final U19 Women’s T20 against Pakistan by 17 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method to clinch the series 3-2.
With the series level at 2-2, Pakistan captain Pizza Fiusz won the toss and elected to bat first, and the home side amassed 128/6 in 20 overs thanks to a combined effort.
Right-handed opener Rawail Farhan scored a cautious 32 off 34 balls, followed by fellow top-order batsman Shahar Bano, who scored 30 off just 19 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Apart from them, another opener Komal Khan and middle-order batsman Aqsa Habib made significant contributions to Pakistan’s total with 21 and 23 not out respectively.
For South Africa, Ashley van Wyk and Daniel Boshoff took two wickets each, while Melissa van der Merwe and Mia Lawler took one wicket each.
Chasing a series-deciding target of 129, the visitors got off to a spirited start as their opening pair Deirdre van Rensburg added 54 runs in 5.4 overs before rain halted play.
The rain interruption proved decisive, with no action possible after the rain, and South Africa DLS found themselves 17 runs ahead of the even score.
Lawler top-scored with an unbeaten 22 off 17 balls while Rensburg scored 18 off 17 balls.
Lawler was named Man of the Match for the U19 Women’s T20 series against Pakistan.
