Dharuba: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and opener Azan Awais hit impressive centuries and pacer Mohammad Ali took five wickets as Pakistan’s four-day practice match against West Indies XI ended in a draw at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Tuesday.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan declared their first innings at 455-4 in 136.5 overs, led by Babar and Azan, after a fine performance from the top order. Shaan Masood and Abdullah Fazal scored fifties.
Asan scored 100 off 241 balls with 9 fours and a six, while Babar scored an elegant 100 off 152 balls including 12 fours and a six. Both were injured after reaching the century.
Masood scored a fluent 70 off 100 balls with 10 fours while Fazal scored 50 off 97 balls with 6 fours. Salman Ali Agha scored 46 off 60 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes while Mohammad Rizwan scored 44 off 103 balls including a six.
For the West Indies XI, Ryan Bandoo returned with figures of 2/86, while Ojay Shields and Jomel Warrigan claimed a wicket each.
In reply, the hosts were bowled out for 279 in 89.5 overs, thanks to a brilliant display from Muhammad Ali, who took 5/37 in 15.5 overs.
Spinner Ali Usman and all-rounder Amir Jamal provided excellent support with 2 wickets each, while Mohammad Abbas picked up a wicket.
Gavem Hodge scored a struggling 92 off 130 balls with 14 fours and a six.
Opener Tagoreine Chanderpal scored 51 runs off 155 balls with 5 fours and a six, while unbeaten Jit Cooley added 47 off 112 balls. Captain Jomal Warrigan also scored 31 runs off 84 balls including 5 fours.
From a first innings lead of 176 runs, Pakistan reached 219-4 in 60.1 overs in their second innings to extend their overall lead to 395 before the match was drawn.
Awais Zafar scored 128 off 190 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes.
Abdullah Fazal scored 48 runs from 48 balls including 2 fours and 3 sixes while Ali Usman scored 41 runs from 63 balls with 6 fours. Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha added 14 runs each.
Warrigan picked up two wickets in the second innings, with Anderson Phillips and Ojay Shields picking up one each.
