Barbados: New Zealand beat West Indies by one wicket to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth ODI of the five-match series at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on Sunday.
Chasing 189, the visitors struggled early on but eventually chased down the target for 9 wickets in 44.1 overs thanks to a half-century from Mark Chapman and valuable contributions from captain Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell.
Chapman scored 80 off 82 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. Santner continued New Zealand’s chase with a 56-ball 34 including 2 fours and a six.
Bracewell scored 32 off 31 balls with 4 fours and a six while opener Will Young scored 20 off 22 balls including 3 fours.
Kudakesh Moti took 5/47 in his 10 overs for West Indies. Mathew Forte took 2 wickets and Jayden Seals and Alsari Joseph took one each.
Earlier, West Indies were bowled out for 188 in 44.4 overs due to New Zealand’s controlled bowling.
Middle-order batsman Amir Jangoo top-scored with 51 off 73 balls with 4 fours, Moti added a useful 41 off 56 balls including 3 fours and a six.
Akeem Auguste scored 33 off 50 balls with 2 fours and a six, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to make a significant contribution.
Opener Justin Greaves scored 10 runs off 13 balls with 2 fours, Keezy Cardy scored 13 runs off 24 balls and also hit 2 fours.
Captain Shai Hope conceded just two runs while Matthew Forte and Jayden Seals scored seven runs each. Sherfan Rutherford scored six and Alzari Joseph added nine.
Matthew Fisher was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers with 3/40 in 8 overs. Santner and Bracewell took 2 wickets each and Nathan Smith and Jaden Lennox took one wicket each.
