Dubai: Pakistan spinner all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has accepted a three-month suspension for violating the ICC Anti-Doping Act, which will be reduced to one month upon successful completion of a rehabilitation program.
Following a doping test conducted after Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 7, the 32-year-old’s positive test for carboxy-DH was classified as a substance of abuse under the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
Admitting to the anti-doping rule violation, Nawaz confirmed that the banned substance was used in a manner unrelated to competition and sports performance.
As a result, he was granted a three-month period of ineligibility beginning on May 1, 2026, the date he voluntarily accepted the temporary suspension.
Nawaz’s provisional suspension has now been lifted, having already been suspended for two-and-a-half months after accepting a clearance and undertaking a rehabilitation programme.
Nawaz will not be required to serve the remainder of the three-month period of ineligibility if he has completed an abuse rehabilitation program to the ICC’s satisfaction.
Nawaz’s results from Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands on February 7, as per the ICC Anti-Doping Rules, disqualifies all subsequent matches played before May 1, 2026.
