London: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday announced its men’s national team squad for the first ODI of the three-match domestic series against India on July 14 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Middle-order batsman Harry Brooke will lead the Three Lions in the upcoming tournament after their 3-0 series whitewash against New Zealand in October-November last year.
22-year-old batting all-rounder Jacob Bethel will start for England alongside Ben Duckett, while the batting maestro will round out the home side’s top order.
Captain Brook will bat at No.4, his predecessor Jos Buttler, playing his 200th game for England in the longer format, while all-rounders Sam Curran and Will Jacks will form their middle order.
Right-arm pacer Jofra Archer will lead England’s pace attack, which features Josh Dungu and Curran, while Jacks, Dawson and Adil Rashid will provide spin bowling options.
Despite England’s series whitewash, the home side will be high on confidence from their 4-0 win over India in the previous T20I series.
However, in ODIs, India recently whitewashed Afghanistan 3-0 at home last month and will be aiming to continue their run of form.
England’s playing XI for the first ODI against India
Jacob Bethell, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (catch), Jos Buttler (week), Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, Josh Dungu and Adil Rashid.
