
Guyana: Off-spinner Jayden Lennox hit a sensational five-wicket haul as New Zealand defeated West Indies by five wickets in the second ODI of the five-match series at the Providence Stadium on Monday, leveling the match at 1-1.
After batting, West Indies were bowled out for just 138 in 36 overs as Lennox tore apart the batting line-up and finished with impressive figures of 5/19 from eight overs.
Opener John Campbell scored 43 off 41 balls with 4 fours and a six.
Amir Jangoo added 24 runs off 41 balls, including a boundary, while fellow opener Akeem Auguste and Keezy Cardi scored 18 runs each.
Captain Shai Hope fell for 7 runs off 16 balls, Sherban Rutherford scored 8 runs off 16 balls, including a boundary, and Gudakesh Moti managed just one run off 16 balls.
Mathew Forte and Alzari Joseph picked up a run each, Vittal Lawes was dismissed without a run and Gary Pierre remained unbeaten on 7 off 22 balls.
Along with Lennox’s heroics, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell ended the innings with two wickets each.
New Zealand bowled in reply and reached the target of 139 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 32.4 overs.
Tom Latham scored 37 off 61 balls including 2 fours while Michael Bracewell contributed a brisk 24 off 26 balls with 3 fours.
Will Young scored 28 off 31 balls with 5 fours, Daryl Mitchell scored 28 off 43 balls and Henry Nicholls scored 17 off 29 balls including 2 fours.
Mark Chapman and Dean Foxcroft were both dismissed for a duck, but New Zealand had little trouble finishing the chase.
For the West Indies, Gary Beare grabbed two wickets, while Alsari Joseph and Gudakesh Moti claimed one each, though their efforts were not enough to prevent New Zealand from securing a convincing win.
