After suffering an innings defeat in the opening match, the tourists need to win the second Test to avoid a series defeat.

The biggest setback came from opener Pathum Nisangwa, who was ruled out of the squad on June 30 for wrist surgery in the United Kingdom.

His absence gave Lahiru Utara a chance to make his Test debut as Sri Lanka’s new opening batsman. Nissanga’s surgery has cast doubts over his participation in the upcoming Lanka Premier League.

Sri Lanka have been forced to withdraw off-spinning all-rounder Ramesh Mendis after contracting a bacterial infection during the tour. Left-arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya returned to the team in his place.
