HARARE: Zimbabwe have recalled Innocent Kaiya, Ryan Burl and Tadiwanashe Marumani for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, while left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza has also returned to the 15-man squad.
Gaia was recalled after a brilliant 140 in the one-off Test against Bangladesh earlier this week. Batter last featured in an ODI in December 2023, while Burl’s previous appearance came in January 2024.
Marumani and Masakatsa last represented Zimbabwe in February 2025. Following Zimbabwe’s historic Test win in Harare, fast bowler Richard Ngarawa has been named the ODI captain for the first time in his career.
He replaces Sean Williams, who is currently in rehab and unavailable for selection.
Gia has also enjoyed success in List A cricket, scoring a century for Zimbabwe A during the recent tour of Bangladesh. His domestic performance was also impressive as he became the top run-scorer for the Rocks with 500 runs, including three centuries and a half-century in the Pro50 Championship.
The 32-year-old also excelled in Zimbabwe’s premier first-class competition, the Logan Cup, where he amassed 409 runs at 51.12, including two centuries, in eight innings.
Burl scored 50 and 20 during Zimbabwe A’s recent tour of Bangladesh, while taking a wicket in two ODIs. Earlier this year, he scored a century for the Rhinos in Bulawayo, first in a four-day tournament and then in a 50-over tournament.
Ngarawa will spearhead Zimbabwe’s pace attack alongside Blessing Musarabani, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Ernest Masuku. The spin department consists of all-rounders Burl and Wesley Mathewere, with Masakatsa offering a special left-arm spin option.
Several players have been dropped, including Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Jonathan Campbell, Tony Munyonga and Trevor Kwandu, who featured in Zimbabwe’s last ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2025.
The three-match ODI series will be played at the Harare Sports Club on July 6, 9 and 11.
