HARARE: Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of West Indies legend Courtney Walsh as the bowling coach of its men’s cricket team.
Walsh, who represented the West Indies in 132 Tests and 205 ODIs, served as Zimbabwe’s bowling consultant at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.
Although Chevrons lost all three matches at the next stage, their strong performance in the early stages of the 20-team mega-event was widely praised.
As a result, ZC has decided to retain the coaching structure, including head coach Justin Sammons, that fueled their historic run at the T20 World Cup 2026, as it approved key appointments in the men’s high performance track earlier today.
Also, the cricket body appointed West Indies’ Great Walsh as Zimbabwe’s senior men’s considerable bowling coach, following his successful stint as Chevron’s consultant at the mega event earlier this year.
“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has thrown its full support behind the coaching structure that took Zimbabwe to the Super 8 stage of this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Head coach Justin Sammons and his technical team have approved key appointments in the men’s high performance track,” the cricket board said in a statement.
“One of the key decisions was the appointment of West Indies fast bowler legend Courtney Walsh as Zimbabwe’s senior men’s substantial bowling coach following his success as bowling consultant during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka,” it added.
