KARACHI: Left-arm opener Imam-ul-Haq has shared his desire to captain Pakistan in any format, calling the opportunity a dream for any player.

Imam, who has represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 75 ODIs and two T20Is since his international debut in 2017, highlighted his captaincy by sharing that he has been playing a leadership role in domestic cricket for the past two to three years.

He further emphasized that captaining Pakistan in any format is a great opportunity and a dream for any cricketer.

Speaking to a local news agency on the sidelines of the final day of the NCA Red-Ball camp in Lahore, Imam said, “Captain Pakistan in any format is a great opportunity and a dream for any player.”

“I have been the captain in domestic cricket for the last two-three years. If such an opportunity comes to me, I will definitely consider it,” he added.

Although the left-handed batsman has represented Pakistan in all three formats, he is currently a regular member of the national Test team, with his latest appearance coming in the first match of the overseas series against Bangladesh in May this year.

Conversely, his most recent appearance in ODIs came against New Zealand the previous year, and he last played a T20I for Pakistan in 2019, the same year he made his short-form debut.

As the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a major overhaul of its player contract structure last month, moving to a format-specific model built around five distinct player tracks, Imam-ul-Haq insisted that he never prioritized one format and was committed to working in all three formats of the game.

“I don’t prioritize any one format. I want to work in all formats. All three formats are my priority.”
