
London: South Africa Women beat Bangladesh by four wickets in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at Lord’s on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 118, South Africa reached the winning score in the last over thanks to Henri Derksen’s play for 6 wickets. He scored 45 off one ball with two fours and two sixes.
Tasmin Pritts scored 20 off 24 balls including 2 fours while Marison Cupp and Nadine de Klerk scored 16 and 15 respectively. Chloe Tryon then finished with an unbeaten 8 off five balls, including a boundary.
Bangladesh put up a good fight but failed despite a decent bowling effort. Nahita Akhtar led the attack with figures of 2/24 from her four overs, while Ritu Moni, Sanjita Akhtar Makela and Marufa Akhtar claimed a wicket each.
Batting first, Tigres were restricted to 117-5 in the allotted 20 overs despite valuable contributions from Sobana Mostari, Sharmin Akhtar and skipper Nigar Sultana.
Mosteri scored 42 runs off 48 balls including 3 fours and a six.
Sultana remained unbeaten on 32 off 20 balls with 4 fours and a six, while Akhtar scored 22 off 29 balls.
Apart from the trio, the rest of the batsmen failed to make a significant contribution, with opener Juwairiya Ferduz getting out for a duck by Marisan Kappal on the first ball.
Taj Nehar also got out cheaply after scoring a run off 12 balls, falling to Shabnim Ismail. Shorna Akter took 4 runs off five balls while Ritu Moni remained unbeaten on one run off five balls.
The Proteas’ bowling attack produced a decent performance, led by Nonkululego Malaba with figures of 2-22 from four overs. Marizan Cupp, Shabnim Ismail and Nadine de Klerk took one wicket each.
With the win, South Africa retained the third position in the Group A table with four wins, one loss, eight points and a net run rate of 0.633.
India, who are second with an excellent net run rate of 2.268, can secure a place in the semi-finals if they win. However, if India lose, South Africa will qualify for the knockout round of the tournament.
