Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (PCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to stop funding the PCB, according to media reports on Thursday.

According to reports, Bulbul submitted a nearly 14-page letter to the ICC earlier this week.

In the letter, he demanded that he be reinstated as the BCB president, arguing that the current administration has no legal standing and requested the ICC to stop funding the board.

Aminul requested the ICC to freeze funds for Bangladesh. The reports further said that the ICC informed the PCB about the letter and the board responded after consulting its legal team.

The 58-year-old could not be reached for comment and did not respond to text messages seeking clarification on the letter and his position.

The development followed the National Sports Council’s (NSC) decision on April 7 to dissolve the Aminul-led panel citing widespread irregularities in the previous PCB elections based on the findings of the inquiry committee.

On the same day, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was appointed as the chairman of the 11-member ad hoc committee appointed to hold fresh elections within 90 days.

Elections were held on 7 June and Tamim was elected unopposed as the PCB president for a four-year term.

Following an investigation into alleged corruption by Aminul and other board members, the Bangladesh government ordered the dissolution of the previously elected board and the holding of elections.

The NSC initiated the inquiry after Tamim submitted a request for an inquiry into the BCB elections last year, saying 50 of the 76 clubs in the capital supported the move. Following the committee’s findings, the NSC removed Aminul from office.

On 30 May 2025, Aminul replaced Farooq Ahmed as PCB chairman after the NSC revoked Farooq’s councilor status, resulting in his removal as board chairman.

Farooq assumed the role in August 2024 following the exit of longtime President Nazmul Hasan, who was in hiding after the July student movement that led to the fall of the Awami League government.

Before taking over the PCB, Aminul was working as the ICC Development Officer. At the request of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, he returned to Bangladesh with the objective of overseeing a transparent electoral process.

Although he initially intended to return to the ICC after the elections, Aminul later decided to contest the elections, saying he wanted to complete his unfinished business.

But his tenure came to an abrupt end after he was removed from office following allegations of corruption. He faced increased scrutiny after widespread allegations surfaced after Bangladesh’s general election earlier this year.
