Dallas: Veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard on Sunday apologized for former West Indies player Chris Gayle’s record of scoring the most runs in men’s T20Is.

Pollard, who made his T20 debut in 2006, scored an unbeaten century for MI New York during their Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 match against Washington Friedan at the Grand Prairie Stadium earlier today.

Pollard’s second century in this format took his tally of T20 runs to 14582, 20 more than Gayle, who last appeared for Fortune Parish in the 2022 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Most runs in T20 career:

  • Kieran Pollard (West Indies) – 14,582
  • Chris Gayle (West Indies) – 14,562
  • Alex Hales (England) – 14,449
  • Jos Buttler (England) – 14,371
  • David Warner (Australia) – 14,284
  • Virat Kohli (India) – 14,218
  • Shoaib Malik (Pakistan) – 13,571

Following MI New York’s 30-run defeat at the hands of Washington Freedom, Pollard termed it “special” but apologized to “Universe Boss” Gayle, who held the prestigious record for 12 years.

“It’s special to get the better of Chris Gayle in the West Indies, which we’ve been looking forward to for a while,” Pollard said in the post-match presentation.

“He has done great things in all forms of cricket, so again, sorry Universe Boss, but we are both at the top there,” he added.

Pollard later highlighted the difficulty of scoring runs for a finisher in the shorter format, but insisted he had “adapted” to the role over the years.

“Having said that, it’s very difficult to bat at No. 6 or 7. Someone has to do a poor job, however, when everyone rushes to bat at the top of the order, there are 11 in a cricket match and everyone has a role to play.

“I think my role is to finish matches over time and I’ve accepted that. If you accept the challenge and train for it, good things will come.”
