LAHORE: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi is set to attend the closing ceremony of the 2025 Men’s U19 Asia Cup after the blockbuster final between arch-rivals Pakistan and India at The Sevens on December 21, sources told Jio Super on Saturday.
According to details, Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, is planning to visit Dubai and will be there for the final, which he will watch live at the venue.
Insiders added that Naqvi will also attend the closing ceremony of the continental tournament, which will see the winning team lift the silverware.
For the uninitiated, the upcoming clash will be the second Asia Cup final between the two arch-rivals, the previous one being played between the two countries’ senior men’s teams in September, in which India won by five wickets.
However, despite winning the eight-team tournament, the Indian men’s cricket team chose not to receive the winners’ medals and silverware from ACC president Naqvi.
In the closing ceremony, which began after an hour’s delay, India’s Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Dubey and Tilak Verma collected individual awards for their respective performances, while Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha bagged the runner-up prize money.
However, the ceremony ended without the Indian team receiving the winner’s trophy.
The following month, the ACC, while responding to letters from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), proposed holding the trophy ceremony in Dubai in the first week of November.
“If you want the trophy, we can have a ceremony where you get it,” the ACC reportedly told the BCCI.
However, the BCCI did not accept the proposal and the trophy has since been kept at the ACC headquarters in Dubai.
