
London: England captain Nat Sciver-Friend will be “unavailable” for the next two matches of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Scotland and the West Indies due to injury.
According to England and Wales Cricket (ECB), the skipper suffered a persistent left leg cramp while batting in the second match of the 12-team tournament against Ireland on Tuesday.
The cricket board further shared that following a further assessment by its medical team, a skiver-brand scan against Scotland and the West Indies scheduled for June 20 and 24 respectively has made him unavailable.
England Women’s captain Nat Sciver-Brunt suffered a left calf strain at the same site of the injury while batting against Ireland Women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup group match in Southampton on Tuesday, the ECB said in a statement.
“Following a scan on Wednesday and further assessment by the England medical team, he will be unavailable for the next two matches against Scotland and the West Indies.”
The ECB further shared that its medical team will continue to monitor captain Skiver-Friend and vice-captain Charlie Dean will lead the hosts in their next two matches.
“Sciver-Brunt will continue to be monitored and assessed by the England medical team as he continues his rehabilitation while in the squad,” the statement read.
“Vice-captain Charlie Dean will lead the team on the field in the absence of the cyber-friend during the next two matches.”
England are top of the Group 1 standings of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 series with four points from two matches and a high net run rate of 2.763 thanks to wins over Sri Lanka and Ireland respectively.
