Bridgetown: Joshua da Silva and Amir Jangoo have been recalled to the West Indies Test squad for the two-match ICC World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka at home later this month.
Fast bowlers Alsari Joseph and Shamar Joseph also return after missing the India and New Zealand tours last year due to injury.
Devin Imlach, who kept wicket in West Indies’ last Test in New Zealand in December, has been dropped from the squad. Da Silva returns after playing 33 Tests and scoring 996 runs in the last two seasons of the West Indies Championship.
Imlach, who scored 81 in 6 innings in New Zealand and scored 33 in his lone Test in India, was instead named captain of the West Indies Test XI to face Sri Lanka at Coolidge from June 18 to 21. Roston Chase will continue as Test captain.
Jangoo returned to strong domestic form after losing just one Test, scoring 0 and 30 at Multan in January 2025.
He amassed 411 runs in seven innings in the West Indies Championship, second in the run charts behind Da Silva who scored 413 runs in seven matches. His standout performance was his unbeaten 203 for Trinidad & Tobago against the Leeward Islands.
Alzari Joseph and Shamar Joseph last featured in Test cricket during the domestic series against Australia in mid-2025.
West Indies head coach Darren Sammy said, “Every Test series is an opportunity for us to grow as a team and strengthen our identity. Sri Lanka are a quality team, so we know we have to be at our best, but we are excited about the challenge ahead.
“For us, it’s about playing with discipline, showing character when the game gets tough and representing the West Indies with pride. The players have put in the work and we look forward to putting on a strong display for our fans across the Caribbean.”
Sami also highlighted the importance of the ongoing High Performance Camp in Antigua, which will begin on June 12 and run until June 22. The players for the white ball series against Sri Lanka will join the camp on June 15.
“It’s an important part of our preparations for this series, giving players and coaches valuable time to develop and improve the skills we want to sharpen in terms of the areas we need to focus on when we face this opponent,” Sammy said of the camp.
“It gives us an opportunity to put clear objectives and plans for the summer finale against Pakistan,” he added.
He said the four-day practice game at Coolidge would provide an opportunity for fringe players to pick.
“Furthermore, the four-day pre-series warm-up game gives some of our Test hopefuls a chance to play in high-intensity action and creates an opportunity for more competition within the squad ahead of upcoming and future series.”
The West Indies are currently bottom of the nine-team ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings, having lost seven of their eight matches in the current cycle.
